Starting My Digital Nomad Journey
Many people, at least for a moment, dream of becoming a travel content creator. But if you’re like me, starting my digital nomad journey seems like a distant dream. Traveling the world, exploring new cultures, tasting exotic cuisines, lounging on breathtaking beaches, meeting fascinating people—then, writing a blog post or editing a video. Working from anywhere in the world and being paid for it. Sounds like a dream job, right?
Well, I still dream about it.
But the burning question that stops many of us is: How do I even begin? Let’s dive into that in this blog post.
A Personal Milestone
This post holds special meaning to me. It’s a memory capsule, marking the beginning of my journey to becoming a digital nomad. One day, when I’ve made it, I’ll look back at this post and remember why I started, and how it all began.
I’ve always had a wild soul that craves adventure. Whether it’s diving into oceans, hiking challenging trails, or just getting lost in conversations with locals, it’s in those moments that I feel truly alive.
But six years ago, everything changed. I packed a suitcase and moved to London, starting a new life from zero. I dove headfirst into a 10-hour-a-day job, all while learning English and studying engineering on the side. This was the ultimate reset—a new country, a new career, and an entirely new chapter.
Feeling Stuck and Burned Out
Now, I’m 37 years old. I live alone, far from family, and I’ve only just recovered after a painful breakup. My current job is demanding, managing massive construction projects with teams of up to 200 people.
It’s tough. Every day, I find myself thinking, Isn’t it time to start a new chapter, like I did six years ago?
But this time, I’m not afraid. I’ve grown. I have more experience, more savings, and bigger dreams—though, I also have less time. I’m stronger and braver now. I know that if things don’t work out, I have a safety net: a few phone calls, and I could return to my well-paid job (the one that I hate) in London.
I love London, but I also find it difficult to live in. People come and go. For many, London is just a temporary stop. It’s challenging to build deep relationships when life moves so fast. Still, London is a city of opportunities, filled with events, great food, and direct flights to anywhere in the world.
The Dream of Becoming a Digital Nomad
After months of reflection, I’ve made a decision—I want to be a digital nomad.
It’s a dream I’ve had for a long time, but I never worked towards it. Now, I want location independence. My parents are getting older, and I want the freedom to spend more time with them without asking for vacation days. I want to work from anywhere, pay my bills, and love what I do.
Some of my skills: languages, photography, videography, digital marketing, and storytelling. Now, I just need to figure out how to monetize them.
Where Do I Begin?
The first step was deciding when to start. My current rental contract ends in March 2025, giving me the perfect opportunity to leave and embrace my digital nomad lifestyle.
I had to think carefully about where to start my journey. While Latin America, with its familiar language, seemed like the easier choice, I’m drawn to Asia—its vibrant cultures, incredible food, and stunning landscapes.
So, the plan is set. In March 2025, I’ll pack my bags and start my digital nomad journey in Asia!
How long will I stay? I’ve saved enough to spend a year in Asia without earning anything, though of course, the goal is to make money along the way. I know that starting from zero as a content creator means I won’t have immediate income.
That’s why I need to start now. I need to build my foundation, create a marketing plan, and choose my niche. You’ve already found one platform—this blog. People say blogging is dead, but I don’t believe it. Blogging isn’t dead—it’s just evolved.
I’m also ready to challenge myself by creating content on YouTube!
What’s Next?
The next six months are all about preparation: researching, learning, creating, and shifting my mindset. This journey will be a test of my determination. I’ll see just how committed I am to chasing my dreams. There’s still so much to do and learn — did I mention I’ve even started learning Japanese? But that’s a story for another post!
I’ve already taken the first step. I’ve decided to become a digital nomad. Now comes the hard part — making it happen.
